Presentation:

The aim of this interactive workshop is to explore how core competences of family medicine/general practice, represented in the new revised WONCA “tree” (representation of the World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians’ core values), can be used and taught in different crisis conditions.

WONCA Europe, has recently revised the European definition of General practice/Family Medicine to include the relevance of One health, Planetary Health and Sustainability.

Professor Kolesnyk has just received the WONCA Europe 2023 5 star award to an outstanding family doctor for his work providing health care to thousands of displaced Ukrainian internal refugees with his team of dedicated volunteers (medical students, interns, doctors, specialists) of the Interfamily Clinic that he founded in the months following war. 

After learning about the health challenges of caring for refugees fleeing the war situation in the most Western province of Ukraine and the incredible solidarity in the local and international medical community which led to the opening of a new kind of family medicine clinic, participants will discuss and share experiences and opinions about the role/competencies of family doctors and teachers in family medicine in Switzerland and Ukraine who are called upon to play a central role in the future of their countries’ health care system.
